Our Instructors

 

Amy Brier is a local limestone artisan whose career as a stone carver and sculptor has taken her around the world. Back home in Indiana Amy serves as the founding director of Bloomington’s annual Limestone Sculpture Symposium, and participated in Ivy Tech’s Limestone Duet with international sculptor Patrick Berthaud Sept 12-Oct 12, 2008. She holds a BFA in sculpture from Boston University, and an MFA from Indiana University.

Chris Cinkoske is the founder and owner of ValuComp Computers. He has over 25 years of experience in all areas of computer hardware and software as well as enterprise, network and internet applications. Chris received both his Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science and his Bachelor of Science in Business Finance and Real Estate from Indiana University. He enjoys teaching and interacting with students, and says he learns from his students in every class he teaches.

Jean Emery is an Illinois transplant who came to Bloomington in the early 1990s. With a career history in banking, real estate and mortgage lending, Jean is vice president of business development at United Commerce Bank in Bloomington. In her spare time, Jean has taken her hobby of haunting garage sales and thrift shops to the online world of eBay.

John Lee is a search engine marketing expert, professional blogger and avid fan of all things “Internet.”  John attended Ivy Tech Community College and Ball State University.  Professionally, John has worked in retail management, author promotions/PR (AuthorHouse) and search engine marketing (Hanapin Marketing).  He has been active in social media for years both as a personal hobby and as a consultant for businesses.

Gerry Masse, a perennially favorite instructor, has been teaching computer software in the area for 15 years. He’s a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certified Teacher, having passed Microsoft exams in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook. His interest in computers led him to Web and Graphic Design, and he is now a practiced instructor of Microsoft FrontPage, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe PhotoShop and Adobe Illustrator.

Kurt Messick teaches at Ivy Tech Community College, where he has worked since 1989. He attended school in Indiana, Britain, and Australia, studying history, philosophy, political science, economics, and religious studies. He is the author of two books, and is a prolific contributor of reviews and essays on the Internet. History has always been a passion, for he believes that the better we know our past, the better we’ll be prepared for our future.

Jelanna Morgan received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2003 with a concentration in Information Systems. She began teaching technology courses in the fall of ’03 with Ivy Tech Indianapolis. After her husband Rex took a position as a History Teacher for Monroe County Schools, she joined the Ivy Tech Bloomington campus and has enjoyed the close knit community of Bloomington. She loves to ride bikes with her three young sons and walk her sweet golden, Marvin. She considers it a privilege to teach for the Center for Lifelong Learning.

Roger Morris has taught a variety of computer courses on the Ivy Tech Bloomington campus since 1995. He has Masters degrees in Instructional Systems Technology and Information Systems from Indiana University, and has been working with information technology for 20 years.

Matt O'Neill received his chef training in Dublin, Ireland. He served as a head chef instructor for the Culinary Arts Academy of Cincinnati in conjunction with the Culinary Institute of America. A member of the American Culinary Federation and the American Hotel Association, as well as a member of the Indiana Writer's Center, Matt is the author of a successful cookbook, The Seasons at Walden Inn. Matt continues his culinary pursuits with the Runcible Spoon, co-ownership of the R Street Bistro in Bedford, and coownership of The Bloomington Cooking School.

Charles Savage, a local freelance writer and photographer, has taught our popular photography classes for the last year. Charles is a graduate of Indiana University School of Journalism where he had the good fortune to have studied with nationally renowned photojournalism professors Will Counts and John Alhauser. Ever since, Charles has enjoyed sharing his knowledge and his enthusiasm for photography with photographers of all levels of experience.
