Egypt was one of the world’s first superpowers, with a civilization that stretches back to the earliest period of recorded history.  From the riddle of the Sphinx to the secrets of the Pyramid, the last remnants of the ancient Wonders of the World, Egypt has much to tell us, some of which we are just uncovering.

My Life Stories Writing Workshop
Would you like to pass down your memories to your family, but don't know where to begin the task?  Join this supportive group, set your pen to paper, and get started preserving your personal history.  Ferne Stout, your facilitator, has written two books about her own life and will provide guidance and writing prompts.  You'll meet new people and work together toward your final writing goal, whatever that may be.  Paper, folders and pens will be provided, but please bring your own if you'd prefer.

Hearth Cooking Workshop
Step back in time at Pioneer Village in Spring Mill State Park for this unique cooking experience. During the afternoon participants will be actively involved in learning techniques for cooking over an open fire and be able to sit at a table together to enjoy the dinner they have prepared. Pioneer recipes and cookbook will be provided. This session will include a one-hour guided stroll through Pioneer Village made up of the Gristmill, homes, gardens and shops.

Prepare Million Dollar Meals with Budget Store Ingredients
Join us for this tasty and practical approach to meal preparation as we stretch each dollar in today’s economy. In this 3-part class we will focus on brunch, dinner and special occasions, including budget-smart table settings and decorations. Each session will include demonstrations and time for tasting. Participants will walk away with a multitude of fresh ideas, recipes and new friends.

Sheila Salkeld, recently retired elementary school teacher, busy grandmother of two toddlers, and creative gourmet cook, will share tips and ideas for easy savory dishes. Helen Hardman, talented home and garden decorator, floral artist, and wedding and event coordinator, will lend her expertise with creative and inexpensive table settings.

Create Your Own Work of Art: An Altered Book
An unused book can become a work of art with embellishments, folded pages, a little glue, paint and imagination. An altered book can be a travelogue of treasured experiences, a wall hanging or coffee table piece, or a one-of-a-kind work of art and makes a lovely gift which captures special meaning for the recipient. Bring a book and we’ll show you how to do the rest!

In Session I you will view a variety of completed books, start gathering ideas for your own books, and learn basic techniques. Session II will be an instructor-assisted work session. Bring your own unwanted hard-bound book, trinkets and treasures to incorporate into your finished piece.

Uncluttering Your Mind, Life and Surroundings
Move your life from cluttered to one that’s uncluttered, organized and simplified. In this 3-session class we will talk about the clutter of “stuff” that tends to accumulate around us. We have clutter in our physical lives, thought processes and minds, and clutter in our habits and lifestyles. Together we will identify areas in which clutter is present in our lives, discuss the impact it has on each of us as individuals, and develop an action plan to shed it for good!

Authentic Senior Women: Fit in Mind, Body and Spirit
In the blink of an eye we flew through our youth and middle age, and have arrived in our senior years with a new set of joys and challenges. Together we will discover the meaning and value of authenticity, and explore skills, techniques and resources for developing and maintaining an increased level of fitness in mind, body and spirit.

This 2-session course will be formatted in discussion, self-reflection, small group activities, sharing of life stories and resources, and will provide a supportive environment for asking life questions, challenging the answers, and making decisions for moving forward in life’s journey. Each participant will determine her own level of accomplishment through goal setting and action planning. A suggested reading list will be distributed upon registration.

Digital cameras can intimidate users - even those with considerable experience with film.  Practice using your camera, connecting to the computer and transferring your photos for editing and printing.  Learn about digital camera controls, features, and settings; the differences among various digital file formats; the resolution you absolutely need to produce the kind of pictures you want; the various media available for image file storage and more.  Each participant will bring a camera with the manual and connection cords to each class.

Digital Cameras: Beyond the Basics
Prerequisite: Digital Camera Basics or knowledge of topics covered: transferring pictures from camera to computer, e-mailing and printing pictures, switching camera modes and flash options.

By popular demand!  You know how to use your digital camera, and often take good pictures by luck or accident. Take the next step and gain more control over your digital photography. Find out how and when to adjust white balance, ISO, exposure and flash. Learn what the various automatic, semi-automatic and manual settings can do.
